Every Food Challenge in Norfolk, Ranked (By People Who Run One)

Seven mountains of food, one county. Prices, time limits, finisher counts - and full disclosure about which one is ours.

Norfolk quietly has one of the best food challenge scenes in the country. A 9lb breakfast that made national news. A steak that has beaten everyone except one professional YouTuber. A sandwich in Dereham with a faster time limit than most people's first coffee. And, as of this summer, ours.

Because we run a challenge ourselves, we spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about what makes a good one. So here's the complete list - every challenge in the county we could verify - ranked honestly. Two things before we start:

First, the obvious disclosure: entry number one is ours. Of course it is - it's our list. But we've made the case rather than just claimed the spot, the other six are genuinely brilliant, and we think you should go and attempt every single one of them. Ideally not in the same week.

Second, an honesty note: challenges change, close and sell out. Details below were checked in July 2026 against the venues and local press - we've linked our sources - but ring ahead before you drive across the county with an empty stomach. Spot something out of date, or run a Norfolk challenge we've missed? Email office@alive.me.uk and we'll update the list - we want this to be the accurate one.

We've ranked on four things: spectacle (does the plate make strangers stare), the deal (is the risk/reward fair), beatability (is victory actually possible), and where your money goes when you lose. That last one matters more than you'd think.

1. The Brunch Challenge Burger - Revive Cafe, Norwich

6patties
30:00on the clock
£35free if you win
0finishers - be first

The damage: six 1/3lb cheese-topped patties, four sausages, four rashers of bacon, a double smashed brown and a fried egg in one sesame bun - plus a full English on the side (four more sausages, four more rashers, two eggs, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, two hash browns, two slices of toast) and a pile of seasoned house fries.

The deal: £35, 30 minutes. Finish and it's free, you get a t-shirt, and your name goes to the top of our Victory Wall. Fail and you go below the line - and this is the bit we'd argue earns the top spot - your £35 goes to charity. We're a 100% volunteer-run cafe, so a failed attempt funds emergency food and community work in Norwich. As far as we know, it's the only food challenge in the county where losing feeds someone.

Beatability: unknown - it launched this summer and the wall is still empty. Someone gets to be first. The full rules and booking details are here.

2. The Kidz Breakfast - Jesters Diner, Great Yarmouth

~9lbof breakfast
60:00on the clock
~6,000calories
26:00fastest finish

The one that made the national papers. Jesters Diner's infamous breakfast weighs around 9lb - about the same as a baby - and clocks roughly 6,000 calories: a dozen rashers, a dozen sausages, six eggs, black pudding, an eight-egg cheese and potato omelette, fried bread, hash browns and the rest.

The deal: around £15, an hour on the clock, free if you finish. Beatability: it has been done - the standing story is a finisher in 26 minutes - but the vast majority fail. A genuine Norfolk legend and the county's heavyweight champion by sheer tonnage.

3. The 100oz Steak Challenge - The White Hart, Swaffham

100ozof rump steak
60:00solo (45 as pair)
1solo finisher ever

Norfolk's hardest challenge, and it isn't close. A 100oz locally-sourced rump steak with chips, onion rings, mushrooms and tomatoes, to be finished in under an hour (45 minutes if you attempt it as a pair).

Beatability: brutal. At last count exactly one person had beaten it solo - BeardMeatsFood, the professional eating YouTuber with millions of subscribers - plus a handful of pairs. If you want the challenge nobody at your work will believe, this is it.

4. The Fatboy - Rasher's Snack Bar, Dereham

22"of baguette
10:00on the clock
£8.50if you fail
3finishers ever

The sprint event. A 22-inch deli baguette loaded with three jumbo sausages, four rashers of bacon, four fried eggs, mushrooms and onions - and here's the twist: you get ten minutes. Not an hour. Ten.

The deal: free if you beat the clock, £8.50 if you don't - honestly one of the fairest loser-prices on this list. Beatability: three finishers ever, with a record of 7 minutes 30. Small cafe, cult challenge, maximum urgency.

5. The Platinum Platter - Russell's Diner, Fakenham

of everything
30:00on the clock
£25if you fail

An American-style diner doing a very British kind of damage: four sausages, four rashers, four black puddings, four fried eggs, four fried toasts and four regular toasts, tomatoes, mushrooms, chips and beans. Thirty minutes; £25 if you can't finish it.

Why it's great: it's the closest cousin to a classic full English blowout, in a proper family diner that also does normal-sized food for whoever you drag along as a witness.

6. The Primal Burger Challenge - Resist Vegan Kitchen, King's Lynn

7lbtotal weight
60:00on the clock
100%vegan

Proof the plant-based crowd don't get let off. A single 2.5lb meat-free patty in a giant toasted bun with lettuce, tomato and cheese - about 7lb of food all in. One hour, one person, no toilet breaks, free if you finish.

Why it matters: as far as we know it's the only fully vegan food challenge in Norfolk, and it's a genuinely serious one. If anyone tells you vegan food is small portions, send them to King's Lynn.

7. The Hot Wings Knockout - Straight Outta London, Norwich

6wings a round
5:00+ 5:00 no drink
£100prize pot

The format outlier: not volume but violence. At the street-food kitchen based at The Boundary on Aylsham Road, competitors eat six increasingly hot wings in five minutes, then sit for five more with no drink and no lip-licking - knockout rounds until one person takes the £100 prize.

Why it's last (and still worth doing): it's an event rather than a walk-in challenge, so you can't just turn up hungry on a Tuesday. But as spectator sport it might be the best entry on this list.

Honest advice before you attempt any of these

  • Book ahead. Every challenge on this list needs the kitchen to prepare - including ours. Walk-ins get disappointment, not glory.
  • Don't starve yourself the day before. Counter-intuitively, a shrunken stomach is your enemy. Eat light but normally, and go in hydrated.
  • Pace beats speed. The people who fail usually blitz the first ten minutes and hit the wall. Steady eating with minimal drinking works better - liquid fills space you need.
  • Bring witnesses. Partly for morale, mostly because nobody believes you otherwise, and every venue on this list would love the extra table of normal-sized orders.
  • Know when to stop. Every one of these is meant to be fun. If your body says no, pay up, laugh, and enjoy being a cautionary tale on somebody's wall.

Start with the one where losing does good

And if you don't, your money funds emergency food and community work in the city. Book your attempt and bring your witnesses.
